What I wore (earlier) today. I do love this rrl Bengal stripe Oxford but.. Well it has shortcomings. The collar is tiny, and it did not seen like an issue when I bought the shirt, however after wearing it for some time it’s options are limited. Small collars do not tuck under lapels easily unless you’re unfortunately wearing a four button jacket which thankfully I don’t own. Also, the only ties I have found to work with such small quarters are hill-sides or knit ties, which look even better in a shirt with a beautiful collar roll. So I didn’t wear a tie to work this morning, but picked up this gorgeous loro piana tie in the afternoon. To wear it I had to unbutton my collar and it still didn’t quite work. I’ve been avoiding small collars and skinny lapels for some time now but this really sealed the deal, if a quality handmade conservative width necktie doesn’t work with a shirt, I’m going to have to pass on the shirt. Even with those enticing words: “Japanese selvage oxford.” I am not too proud to admit they opened up my wallet. From here on out, if the collar points don’t tuck, I will pass. Even on Japanese selvage oxfords with MOP buttons.
